We are DJANGSTERS.

We make IT projects fun, not scary!

djangsters GmbH is an IT consulting agency from Cologne, Germany. We started in 2013 with a focus on web development with Python and Django, hence the name. Since then, we’ve grown both in team size and expertise in different technologies - be it frontend development with its fast changing frameworks, backend development, databases, search engines, devops, and infrastructure.

The team

Our team of djangsters is extremely diverse in their backgrounds, interests and specialization. We have chemists, physicists, mathematicians, and computer scientists on board. This allows us to work on a wide range of topics such as fundamental research, data analysis and high throughput web applications.

sebastian

Sebastian Rode

Founder/Developer

Sebastian studied biophysics at Technical University Berlin and Technical University Munich and got his doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Cologne. As a soft matter researcher at Forschungszentrum Jülich, he studied the motion of microswimmers via high-performance computer (HPC) simulations. During his scientific work, he discovered his love for data analysis and visualization with Python.

Python proved to be a powerful all-arounder, so powerful in fact that in 2013 Sebastian founded djangsters - a whole company built around Django/Python web development.

At djangsters he works with customers to understand their problems and enables the team to deliver well working solutions. He has strong experience in PostgreSQL, Django, pandas, matplotlib, and HPC simulations.

In his freetime he is a cinema enthusiast, loves going out to nature and especially enjoys sailing.

Iwan Trofimtschuk

Founder/Developer

Iwan obtained his Masters degree in Information Engineering and Management from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. To deepen his practical skills he started part time freelancing during his studies, and that’s when he fell in love with Python and Django for web development. In 2013, along with Sebastian, he co-founded djangsters.

Iwan has been involved in the design and architecture of a number of web applications and developed them from a concept to fully featured mature products. His main focus areas are Application Architecture, API-Design and Backend Development with Python and Django.

In his free time, Iwan travels with his iVan, takes care of animals and plants on his small farm, and does more things that some people might consider crazy.

Gunnar Hönig

Backend Developer

Gunnar studied Bioinformatics at the Martin-Luther-University in Halle (Saale), which is bridging the gap between two very different fields. Afterwards, he continued to do research in the area of epigenetics with a focus on the analysis and visualization of next-generation sequencing results. After several years he moved on to the private sector and found his home in web development.

Gunnar has vast experience in different fields and has contributed to many client projects either as a backend developer, frontend developer or project manager. He is skilled in Python/JavaScript and their respective frameworks, project management, and a colourful mix of other technologies like PostgreSQL, Heroku, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, and more.

Unsurprisingly, he also enjoys wearing many hats in his free time, be it as a game master for his tabletop role playing game groups, experiencing different board games or getting immersed in virtual worlds.

Tatiana Vasilevskaya

Backend Developer

Tatiana studied Chemistry at Moscow State University with focus on computational chemistry. After graduation she continued research in the area of theoretical chemistry at Max-Planck-Institute für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Several scientific publications later she decided to change the course of her work from academy to industry and discovered Django. Historians disagree which one of these came first.

Tatiana has contributed to various client and internal projects over the years at djangsters. She is experienced in python, its frameworks, PostgreSQL, Solr, AWS, Heroku and also frontend technologies and several frameworks.

Her free time she mostly spends with her dogs, training and competing in agility. She organizes agility competitions in her local club and of course automates every management task she can there.

Damian Kusnik

Backend Developer

Damian is a Renaissance man with a PhD in computer science. His main interest is pre-war architecture and construction. He spends most of his time at the construction site, where he conserves monuments and rebuilds dilapidated buildings in accordance with original construction techniques.

At djangsters he transfers this practice to designing IT systems, because a good system must have a solid foundation and proven methods - just like ancient aqueducts that have not succumbed to the cracks of time to this day. He believes that anything is possible, even time travel, it's just a matter of time (and money).

Damian’s expertise lies in solution architecture, image processing, databases, virtualization, and computer networks.

Michael Musangeya

Frontend Developer

Michael studied Applied Information Technology at the University of Zimbabwe focusing on Software Engineering. Post-graduation, he worked as a developer for enterprise software, mostly SAP. After a short dally with Python, he discovered the love of his life, frontend development, and finally settled down with JavaScript and React.

Michael has worked on many clients projects and is proficient with JavaScript/TypeScript, and their associated frameworks such as React and Vue along with other frontend technologies such as Storybook, Redux and Cypress.

He is always expanding his skillset and currently annoys everyone with talks about Rust when he's not busy jumping off bridges or playing video games.

Our Approach

We strive to deliver sustainable solutions that are efficient and tailored to the needs of our customers. We care about writing Zen Code that makes a positive difference. Kaizen is in our DNA, we aim to be ever learning and constantly improving. For our projects it means that we’d rather start development early and make adjustments as we proceed, after all you do not wait for all the lights to turn green before you start a journey.

sustainability

Sustainable Solutions

We neither over-engineer nor shy away from adding necessary challenging technologies when needed or go to the whiteboard and design a new algorithmic solution.

zen

Zen Code

While the original guiding principle originates from the infamous Zen of Python, we incorporated them into all the code we write. In particular, we internalize, keep it simple and explainable.

kaizen

Kaizen

Kaizen is the Japanese word for continuous improvement. We believe there is no such thing as perfection, instead we act, review, learn and become better.
